Cradle to College Educational Opportunities

It is our belief that you cannot transform the dynamics of a neighborhood without providing quality educational opportunities.  That’s why it is important for Avondale Meadows to offer quality pre-school classes and to partner with two of Indianapolis’ finest charter schools, The Challenge Foundation Academy and Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School.  These schools combined with The Excel Center provide high quality educational choices for families in the area and for the future leaders of our community.

Pre-School Programs (Ages 3 and 4)

The revitalization plan includes pre-school classes for 3 and 4 year old students in the new health and wellness center.  The research is clear on early childhood education and future success in life.

The Challenge Foundation Academy (Grades K-5)

In less than 5 years, the Challenge Foundation Academy has contributed mightily to the lives of more than 600 Indianapolis families.  Since opening its doors, Challenge has made a major impact on closing the achievement gap and social opportunity gap for children in Avondale Meadows. CFA is deeply focused on preparing all students for college through a rigorous academic program and close attention to work habits and the academic stamina needed for school success. From 2009 to 2010, CFA student ISTEP scores in reading and math improved from 48 to 65 percent.  This incredible gain places CFA in the top 25 most improved schools in the state of Indiana.

The Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School (Grades 6-12)

The Charles A. Tindley Accelerated School is a public charter school that welcomed its first students in 2004. School leaders act as educational entrepreneurs who respond to student needs and quickly implement any necessary changes. Tindley’s mission as an accelerated school model ensures all students pursue a degree at a selective college or university. Accelerated Schools PLUS is a national movement to transform school communities by applying gifted and talented teaching strategies, traditionally reserved for only the top 5% of students, to all students.

The Excel Center (Ages 18 and Above)

The Excel Center is a mayor-sponsored public charter school that provides adults over the age of 18 the opportunity and support to earn a high school diploma and begin post-secondary education.  The Excel Center, which opened in late 2011, is a proven model established by Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana.
